First Prom First Love | Kansas City Prom Photographer

This is one special session for Matt and Alyzza. I met Matt from his big family reunion a few years ago. Our families became friends. I’ve witnessed him growing from a boy to a man. Matt contacted me a few weeks ago for prom photos. This is his junior prom. The way he asked his prom date is so romantic. He played guitar and sang Magic!’s “Rude”, but he changed lyrics a little bit to fit his needs. The girl’s dad also held a big poster for him to ask his daughter to go to prom with Matt. The girl of course said yes. She is Alyzza – an almost 16 years old girl where Matt go to dance class with for a long time. Matt and Alyzza are both competition dancers. They are both straight A students in high school. This is their first prom. Also first love.

Spring is full of colors and surprises. This is my first session that I shot in the rain. We almost move the session into my studio, but I’m glad we shot outside. Matt wanted the session to be shot at his grandparents’ mansion in Stanley Farms, where I also shot his big family reunion photos years ago. Alyzza arrived first in her royal blue gown. Her grandma is a hair stylist and worked on her hair and makeup. She looked gorgeous. While waiting for Matt, I took some head shots and full body shots for Alyzza first. There’re so many flowers blooming. One of my favorites of Alyzza’s photos is the one that I shot from below while she is in front of a pink flower tree. Right after that shot, it started raining. Matt arrived shortly after it started raining. He was in royal blue tux. We shot on the porch first. Once the rain slowed down, I moved them to stand in front of the house. We did some fun poses. One thing all young couples love to do is to take selfies, so I took photos of them taking their selfless. Then it started pouring, we had to move under the roof. Still on the porch, Matt and Alyzza were looking at the rain. There was a few really good moments of them enjoying the view, so I captured these.

Finally, they young couple put on their prom roses on each other. Matt also took off his tux for the last photo. His royal blue vest matches beautifully with Alyzzas’ prom gown. What a cute sweet young couple. I hope to see them again in their senior prom next year.
