Remember the beautiful Wizard of Oz family? They are back for their family photos. This is another themed family session with the Hentges. The Hentges was so excited to return to normal life for their actual family photo session. As usual, I drafted out 20 ideas with different settings and props. Kim and I worked on prioritizing ideas and arrange them into a productive agenda because it would be cold. We know things won’t always go as planned, but it is good to have a plan. We shot this in the last weekend this fall while there were still leaves on the tree.
It was actually Audrey’s 12th birthday that day, so I had to take a couple more headshots for Audrey. I just love this girl. She is so elegant and sophisticated. Of course Leo is such a cutie. It was my first time meeting him in person because I met the cowardly lion that he played last time. Kim is so detail oriented that she also brought her grandma and their dog Rigby. She wanted Rigby to be in a few family pictures, but in the mean time grandma could watch Rigby. Movie directors always say the hardest subjects to shoots are kids and pets. I challenged both in this session. It turned out that Rigby cooperated so well and we got a few great family pictures of everyone. The Hentges were fully prepared! They brought everything they could think of, including a wagon, blanket, picnic basket, lot of real food to fill in the picnic basket, books, roses, and Christmas garland! These props are all meaningful to them in real life.
Finally, location, location, location. This is my favorite location to shoot fall family sessions this year. It is a bed and breakfast place with over 100 years history and more than 10 acres land. The inn, the trees (lots of walnut trees), the landscape, the trail, and the elevated mountain view from the back of the inn (where I called it Utopia)! Everything there is just so beautiful… I like to shoot at unique location that is not publicly known. The Hentges fell in love with this place as well. I will definitely take my little family there for our own family photos next year!
