Bokeh Stories - Our Client's Story Line /

January 6, 2014

Here comes the second part of the modeling headshot session. This time I picked a different location. It is a beautiful college campus in Liberty, MO. Our first star is little Joelle Kimbrough (Jo Jo). She is 9 years old and a glamour girl. Jo Jo brought her own little purse with all her glam accessories. She is super easy to work with and great at posing. There’s really not much directions I had to give. Jo Jo is a natural born child model. Her mom Shea is gorgeous too. This is another model I worked with the same day. MeShell Nelson is a print model. She is a school teacher in the day. After I shared a sneak peak of her picture, I got numerous likes and comments on...

This year flew by really fast.  It is the second year of Bokeh Story Photos and first full year. I counted all the sessions that I edited in my Lightroom folder. The number is 96! Among these sessions some are bigger sessions like the Iway family reunion , some are small like modeling headshots. This number might not be a big one for a full-time photographer, but it is big for me because I only take sessions in the weekends. Photography has been a great balance in between taking care of two little kids and working a full-time design job. Sometimes I don’t know how I could handle all these in my life. I really learned and improved my project management skill this year! All of these sessions make a...

Time flies. Can’t believe it’s at the end of 2013! Also I have kept my promise by doing project 10×12 every month this year! It is a unique and personal project. This project allows me to capture sweet moments among my own family members. I took a few days off of my day job to spend some quality time with Audrey and Wesley before the holidays. My dad flew all the way from China to spend the holiday with us. I only get to see my dad once or twice a year. Last time he came in March. The kiddos of course missed grandpa a lot. We had a big winter storm right before the holidays, so both my dad and my father in law worked together to build a snowman....

Remember the beautiful Wizard of Oz family? They are back for their family photos. This is another themed family session with the Hentges. The Hentges was so excited to return to normal life for their actual family photo session. As usual, I drafted out 20 ideas with different settings and props. Kim and I worked on prioritizing ideas and arrange them into a productive agenda because it would be cold. We know things won’t always go as planned, but it is good to have a plan. We shot this in the last weekend this fall while there were still leaves on the tree. It was actually Audrey’s 12th birthday that day, so I had to take a couple more headshots for Audrey. I just love this girl. She is so...

Remember that cute little birthday girl with ponytails? Little Hannah was one of my first clients when I first started last year. She’s coming back for her four year old birthday photos! She is just getting prettier and prettier. Her parents prefer on location photo session than studio, so we shot in the freezing woods. Hannah’s mommy put two dresses on her plus a coat. She was still cold, so we wrapped her in a blanket when we change locations. She did really well for the first 30 minutes, but it is really cold and she started crying. That was probably the longest she could handle. I asked if she had breakfast. Her parents said she did not. I suggested a good breakfast place nearby and we all went to...

It was my honor to work with one of the biggest modeling agencies in Kansas City area. The agency is launching a new website soon and requesting all existing models and talents to update their modeling profile pictures. I am one of the four photographers that they selected to work on this project. I met so many talented actors and models through working on this project. As I said before I LOVE shooting models. A lot of them are child models, which works out perfect because I am primarily a child portrait photographer. Since there are so many talents, I will separate this by a few posts. This is Krista Kerschen. She is a print model. This is Caio Nunes – Exposure’s new face. Caio is originally from Brazil –...

Recently I had the honor to shoot a themed photo session with actor Rick Folten. You might not know his name, but you will recognize his face when you see him. He has appeared in over 250 commercials, numerous films, and a few TV series. When Rick first called me to book a full modeling session he asked what kind of idea I had for his session. I told him that I was impressed and touched by his Abbott commercial – Father Daughter Promise. His good father image is deeply inside my head. I said, “why don’t we shoot a father daughter themed story and I will come up with a script.” He liked the idea and told me that he just happened to know a girl whom could play...

Can’t believe 2013 is almost over! I did not take a lot of photos of my own little family because this is the busiest month for me as a portrait photographer. Almost all my weekends were filled with 2-3 fall family sessions plus modeling headshots sessions.  I felt like that I reached at my full capacity and did not spend much with my own little family. The only time that I picked up my DSLR and took pictures of my own family were at a friend’s wedding reception. Remember the gorgeous couple Nancy and John that I took the airplane engagement pictures? We did not make it to their San Francisco wedding, but we made to their Kansas City reception. It was great time to see so many of our...

I am so excited to share the story behind this themed family photo session. Kim and I met at our company’s Halloween event. Her family dressed up in Wizard of Oz characters. It was so eye-catchy that I could not resist to take a picture of her family with my point and shoot. My husband suggested to talk to her and send her the photo and I did. I am so glad that I talked to her. We connected on Facebook. It happened that she was looking for a photographer and she picked me. Since her Wizard of Oz figures are so deeply in my mind, I asked if she is interested in a themed family photo session. She said yes. This is by far my favorite family photo session....

Don’t you know how much I love photographing 2-3 months babies? I have to admit that I am not big for newborns. Although they are cute and I can pose them without worrying about get their attention, they are sleeping. I like to interact with babies and small kids during a photo session. Baby Evan just turned 2 months. He is the first baby from the Moll family. Terry – Evan’s father, a new dad asked me to take photos for little Evan. We brainstormed lots of ideas for Evan’s studio session. I have a page full of different setups. Studio session needs a lot more planning than on location because a studio is a big empty box and you have to fill your creativity and imagination to make it...
