Can’t believer September is almost over. This is so far my busiest month this year. It is so  hard to find time to take pictures of my own little family. Ever started I got into studio lighting, I go to my studio every weekend, which make it even harder to spend time with my little ones. My husband had a great idea to bring the kids to the studio. It was Labor Day weekend and my mom came to visit us in town. She demanded pictures with her grand babies, so we all went to my studio. It is so hard to light a white background with just 2 lights because it would turn grey most likely. It takes at least 4-5 lights to light a white background. Audrey as...

Baby Daniel is coming back for his 2 months milestone session! He was such an active newborn that he was awake throughout his entire newborn session, but for a 2 months old he totally rocked this session! He was so good and strong that he could hold his head up for a couple seconds. His mom said that he is rolling over at 2 months! I have never heard this before. Baby Daniel’s big sister Brianna and brother Joseph also came to see me. They played with Audrey while we were working hard in the studio. Audrey and Joseph became friends after this session! I love it when clients become friends and our kids could have play dates!

Remember this girl? She is the talented Kendra – the youngest vendor at Payton’s Closet in Liberty downtown. She had her jaw surgery a couple months ago and now she is reborn! So glad to see Kendra back! Only 14, Kendra is a straight A student in school, a cheerleader, an artist who designs and makes her own hair bow. She also does a great job on makeup and hair and even help other cheerleaders on the team to do hair and makeup. Kendra curled her own hair and did her own makeup for the first classic look. It’s totally what I was looking for!  The first look was all done with using one light. The reason why I fell in love with studio photography is that I could learn lighting...

I had the honor to shoot the Adorn Style Show and Brunch presented by Harvest Ball Society as the . Founded in 1987, the Harvest Ball Society has become the largest not-for-profit organization devoted to raising funds for charities serving causes primarily in the Kansas City Northland. Proceeds from the Society’s events benefit programs and services that enrich, stabilize, and strengthen the lives of adults and children within our community. Each year, the Harvest Ball Society designates 25% of its net proceeds to be set aside, reserved for future major needs. In its 26-year history, the Harvest Ball Society has contributed to more than 60 charities. The 2013 HBS Adorn Style Show & Brunch was held in the Grand Ballroom at Bartle Hall in Kansas City Convention Center on Sat Sept 7. Over 700...

I had so much fun shooting with a group of talented artists in the studio last weekend. This is what I have been wanting to do for a long time – fashion editorial! We did this shoot for a designer’s vintage clothing store in Kansas City – Redoux Fashions. It takes a lot more effort than just a photographer to complete a session like this. Fashion designer or whoever provides the wardrobe would be the key for the shoot. Based on whatever clothing or accessories provided by the fashion designer, photographers, makeup artists, and hair stylists would design the look for the model and come up with a concept or theme for the shoot. With the limited time we had that afternoon, we did a total of four different outfits....

I knew my little girl had an interest in modeling back when she was 8 months old. She knows her mommy always point a black box at her every single day, whether it’s a small black box or a big one. After 2 years training, this little girl will be 3 years old in less than 2 months. She is all ready for some serious work instead just candid pictures. I started renting a studio share in Kansas City downtown. As I am getting into studio lighting and model photography, I need a subject to practice and someone who could not turn me down. At the same time, I feel guilty leaving my kids at home in the weekends and go to studio on my own. My husband suggested this...

Can’t believe summer is almost over. It’s definitely one of my favorite seasons, especially this summer isn’t that hot, which is rare here. Kansas city is known for its extreme cold winter and hot winter. I did so much this month and it’s hard to remember what all I did… Project 10×12 is probably turning into 100×12 for the the remaining months of this year because I have so much exciting things to share. My inlaws came all the way from China to stay with us for a year. The kids are so happy that grandparents are here again, but it’s probably the first time that Wesley sees them when he has memory. We take walks in the neighborhood in weekend mornings. One Saturday morning I saw Audrey and Wesley...

After shooting with Staci in the studio, I am more interested in fashion photography. Either on location using natural light or in studio using studio lighting, models and styling are major components of a successful fashion photo shoot. So… I started hunting for models. It does takes some courage to talk to pretty people and ask them to model. I met Katie through my day job. I wanted to talk to her the first time I saw her, but I didn’t. It took another month for me to finally ask her if she is interested in modeling for one of my photographer projects. She said yes, but she was very nervous about modeling and pose in front of a group of photographers. I personally prefer 1 on 1 session with my...

Time flies… More than half of 2013 is gone. My Irish twins are getting more and more mobile and active. I have to keep an eye on them every minute. We did a really fun casual photoshoot in my front yard this month. Wesley loves to shoot basketball, so does Audrey. We have a toy basketball goal in our house, but they are not interested in that so much. They decided to try the real basketball in our front yard. Of course it was too tall for them to shoot balls, so daddy lowered the height for them. Little people just want to imitate everything adults do. Right, they want to try slam dunk! Thanks to my father-in-law for holding them to the hoop’s height, so they could do what...
